ICC announces review of 'Big Three' stranglehold on world cricket
India, Australia and England will no longer enjoy permanent positions on two important committees.
In its first board meeting held at its headquarters in Dubai on Thursday, the International Cricket Council announced that it would hold a review into its constitution and governance structures, in particular seeking to re-examine a 2014 resolution that gave Australia, India and England enhanced powers in world cricket. Shashank Manohar, the current BCCI president and ICC Chairman headed the meeting.
The board has decided to remove permanent positions for India, England and Australia on the Executive Committee and the Financial and Commercial Affairs Committee.
In a statement, the board also proposed to re-establish the 'independent' position of the ICC Chairman. To prevent conflict of interest, the ICC Chairman would not be allowed to hold any post with any Member Board. In the past, each nominee was required to be a past or present ICC Board Director and required the support of at least two Full Members.
The structure and scheduling of international and domestic cricket was another key agenda and it was decided that there was a need to build a "clearer cricket calendar with greater context".
