Celebratory firing banned in Shamli after eight-year-old boy shot dead
Shamli Circle Officer Nishank Sharma said strict action would be taken against those found responsible.
Authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district have banned celebratory firing after an eight-year-old boy was accidentally shot dead by Samajwadi Party workers celebrating panchayat poll results. Shamli Circle Officer Nishank Sharma said strict action would be taken against those found responsible. The eight-year-old, identified as Sami, was travelling in an autorickshaw when he was hit by a stray bullet.
The police on Thursday arrested two Samajwadi Party workers accused in the incident. Party workers, along with MLA Nahid Hasan, attacked two journalists on Tuesday after they covered the incident for their news channel. The media fraternity came down hard on the party, and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley demanded an investigation into the incident.
