Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton swept the Democratic South Carolina Primary on Saturday beating opponent Bernie Sanders. Her win is significant as it comes ahead of a series of primaries in 11 states called Super Tuesday, which will be held on March 1. Early results showed her winning with double-digit margins in many areas, Reuters reported. This victory strengthens Clinton’s status as the frontrunner for the party for the November 8 presidential elections in the United States.

This win reinstated Clinton’s support from black voters, who make up more than half of the party’s primary electorate in South Carolina, raising questions about whether Sanders – a democratic socialist US senator from Vermont – will be able to gain the backing of others besides white liberals.
