Kumar, who has reported extensively on the Land Acquisition Act, the Coal Act and industrial corridors in India, was named the recipient of the prize along with TOI's Priyanka Kakodkar.
Scroll.in contributor Raksha Kumar and Times of India reporter Priyanka Kakodkar were on Tuesday named the joint recipients of the Chameli Devi Jain Award, a major prize for women mediapersons in the country. The Media Foundation, which administers the award every year, commended Kumar for her reportage on the central government’s proposed amendments to the Land Acquisition Act, the Forest Rights Act and the Coal Act. The foundation praised her investigation into the possible impact of erecting industrial corridors across India, specifically Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. Kakodkar received the award for her coverage of the farming crisis in Maharashtra, which the foundation said included more than 50 front-page reports for the national daily in the past year.
The award will be presented on March 17 by former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh at the India International Centre, Delhi and will be followed by the second BG Verghese Memorial Lecture.
