62 killed as plane crashes while landing in Russia, two Indians among them
The accident took place when a Flydubai plane en route to Rostov-on-Don failed to land correctly owing to tricky weather conditions.
As many as 55 passengers and seven crew members were killed on Saturday when a Flydubai passenger jet crashed in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, reported Business Standard. The flight from Dubai en route to Rostov-on-Don crashed while trying to land. According to the Dubai Media Office, there were two Indians among the victims. A majority of the deceased (44 of them) were Russians, eight were from Ukraine and there was one Uzbek passenger.
According to air-traffic control and local emergency services, the Boeing 737-800 jet crashed near the runway during a second approach owing to trick weather conditions. "During the landing approach a Boeing-737 crashed. It had 55 passengers on board. All of them died," an official told TASS news agency. Emergency crews have put out the fire and the airport has closed until further notice.
