Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader and former spokesperson MG Vaidya on Wednesday came out in support of former Maharashtra Advocate General Shrihari Aney, who had suggested the people of Marathwada should get their own state. Unwilling to join the outcry that followed Aney's remark , the senior leader said the state should be divided, but from governance point of view, reported ANI. He added that a new state reorganisation commission should be constituted as he believes no state should have a population exceeding 3 crore.

According to the Economic Times, though Vaidya said it was improper of an advocate general to make such a comment, he said that he favoured the suggestion. On Tuesday, Aney submitted his resignation to the governor, a day after he was chided by the Devendra Fadnavis government for suggesting the drought-hit Marathwada region should be a separate state. At an event in Jalna, he had said that the region had faced grave injustice and its people should fight for their rights.
