Pathankot attacks: NIA says it has asked Pakistan for voice samples of JeM chief Masood Azhar
The Pakistani Joint Investigative Team will question the three witnesses in the case on Thursday.
The National Investigation Agency said on Wednesday that it has handed over a list of 300 questions related to the Pathankot attacks to Pakistan’s Joint Investigation Team, which is in India to probe the raid by alleged Pakistani terrorists on the Indian Air Force base in January. The list of demands includes voice samples of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar and his brother Abdul Rauf, who India believes were behind the attacks, reported PTI.
NIA Director General Sharad Kumar said that the JIT had shared details of their probe with the agency, adding that he cannot disclose any of the information. Kumar further said that the JIT was in the process of sharing documents and whatever other information the NIA had asked for. He added that the Pakistani investigators had detained some people and their probe was still on.
The five-member investigative team, which arrived in India on Sunday, will question the three witnesses in the case – Punjab Police superintendent of police Salwinder Singh, his jeweller friend Rajesh Verma and cook Madan Gopal – on Thursday. It was reported earlier that they were not given clearance to question cadres of the National Security Guard, Border Security Force or the Indian Air Force.
The JIT is headed by Additional Inspector General of Police, Counter Terrorism Department, Muhammad Tahir Rai, and also includes the Inter-Services Intelligence's Lieutenant Colonel Tanvir Ahmed. The JIT was formed on the instruction of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and was given a seven-day visa for their visit to India. New Delhi is likely to request Islamabad to allow an Indian investigation team to visit Pakistan at a later date.
