The associate vice president of IVRCL, the firm that was constructing the Kolkata flyover that collapsed on March 31, was arrested by Kolkata Police on Wednesday. Twenty six people have been killed and at least 89 have been injured in the collapse. Ranjit Bhattacharya, who had been hospitalised after the incident, was discharged on Tuesday and taken to the Kolkata Police headquarters soon after, NDTV reported.

So far, eight IVRCL officials have been arrested in connection with the collapse of a 150-metre section of the Vivekananda Flyover. Investigators arrested Project Manager Tanmoy Sil on Monday and also seized several documents from IVRCL’s Beadon Street office after conducting a thorough search. The company had missed nine deadlines to complete the flyovert, but claimed the delay was because the government did not provide clearances on time.
