Mamata Banerjee has violated Model Code of Conduct by promising to make Asansol a district, says EC
The Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to the West Bengal chief minister for her remarks made during a rally.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's promise to make Asansol a district during a rally in the city was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct in place during the ongoing state Assembly polls, the Election Commission said on Thursday. The EC issued a show-cause notice to Banerjee for her remarks and can take action against her if she does not respond within a fixed time-frame, reported dna.
However, Banerjee seemed unfazed by the notice and responded by saying, as reported by PTI, "Election Commission has show-caused me on [the] Bengali New Year today. People will show-cause them on May 19 [when the votes will be counted]."
