Janata Dal (United) legislator Anil Sahni will be prosecuted by the Central Bureau of Investigation in a scam concerning leave travel concessions, or LTC, where he allegedly forged air travel tickets and boarding passes to claim allowances from the Parliament. Sahni will be the first legislator from the Upper House to be prosecuted by the CBI, after the agency got the approval of Rajya Sabha chairman and Vice President Hamid Ansari, PTI reported. The CBI’s chargesheet said Sahni has defrauded the Rajya Sabha of around Rs 23.7 lakh, according to the report.

Sahni has denied all allegations and claimed it was a conspiracy against him. He also said it was an attempt by the Centre to malign him, and that he was a victim of a fake bill racket. Others accused in the scam are an Air India official and a Delhi-based travel agency, Air Cruise Travels Pvt Ltd. Sahni’s term in the Rajya Sabha ends in 2018. Parliamentarians, from both the Upper and Lower Houses, are allowed 34 free air tickets a year.
