At least six people were injured after a group clashed with a Ram Navami procession in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand on Friday, reported The Indian Express. The mob also set fire to at least three houses and several vehicles in Pandu village. The situation was later brought under control by the police.

Police said the violence started when some people hurled stones at the procession around 6 pm. “It was a minor issue which led to an argument and stone pelting. Security forces at the spot managed to control the situation. But some elements targeted houses deep inside the village. As per our information, three houses were set on fire, while a fourth was partially burnt,” Jharkhand police spokesperson and Additional Director General of Police (Operations) SN Pradhan told the English daily. The exact cause of the exchange is not known yet.

In another similar incident, more than two dozen people were hurt when police lathicharged a mob that clashed with another religious procession in Bokaro Steel City. Deputy Commissioner RM Ray, 10 policemen and three journalists were injured in the violence, following which a curfew was imposed at four places in the city, reported The Telegraph.
