No signs of external or internal injuries were found on Kirpal Singh's body, the doctor heading the panel that conducted the autopsy said on Tuesday. The cause of Singh's death will be established after reports of the chemical examiner and earlier post-mortem are reviewed, Dr Ashok Chawla told ANI, adding that they did not find any indications of foul play involved in his death.

Dr Chawla further explained that some organs were missing from Singh's body because they are taken for testing while an autopsy is performed. A post-mortem was conducted in a hospital in Lahore, before his body was handed over to India at the Attari-Wagah border earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan had said.

Singh had reportedly died under suspicious circumstances in a Lahore jail on April 11. While Pakistan has maintained that Singh died of a heart attack, his family continues to claim he was murdered. Singh's nephew said there were injury marks on his face and body, and his family wanted another post-mortem to be performed in India.

His body was brought to the Attari-Wagah border and given to Border Security Force personnel after legal formalities were completed. His close relatives and residents of his village in Gurdaspur district were present at the border.

Singh, who was arrested after allegedly crossing into Pakistan in 1992, was in jail for nearly 25 years on charges of spying. He was sentenced to death in a bomb blasts case in Pakistan’s Punjab province, and his sentence was later commuted to 20 years in prison.
