Central team to probe 12 deaths in government-run home for people with special needs in Rajasthan
The Ministry of Health appointed the team of experts, which includes a senior paediatrician, an epidemiologist and a microbiologist.
The central government on Sunday sent a team of experts to Rajasthan to help the state government investigate the death of 12 people, including children, at a government-run home for those with special needs, near Jaipur. The state government has also appointed a three-member panel to investigate the matter, reported PTI. According to reports, water and food contamination led to the deaths.
The five-member central team includes a senior paediatrician, an epidemiologist and a microbiologist. Appointed by the Ministry of Health, the team will suggest public health measures to prevent such mishaps in the future, the report said.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda assured his state counterpart in Rajasthan, Rajendra Rathore, of all support, an official statement from the ministry said. "A detailed report in the incident is expected shortly," officials added.
The 12 people died between April 16 and 27 because of a suspected bacterial infection after drinking contaminated water. Three officers and as many staff members of the government-run home were suspended.
