A Cameroonian football player died after having a suspected heart attack while playing a league game for his Romanian club Dinamo Bucharest against FC Viitorul Constanța in Constanta on Friday.

Patrick Ekeng, 26, collapsed seven minutes after he was substituted into the match. The incident happened in the 70th minute. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Local media reported that he had suffered a heart attack.

Tributes rang out all over the football world with Ekeng's club Bucharest putting out a statement offering condolences to the bereaved family and and Ekeng's former club Cordoba mourning his loss. A defensive midfielder, Ekeng had played ten games for the Cameroon national team.
