Concerned about Kim Kardashian’s popularity on image-sharing app Instagram, an Iranian agency has claimed that the reality television star is a secret agent. The Organized Cyberspace Crimes Unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corp accused Kardashian of working for Instagram as part of an agenda to “target young people and women” with her photographs depicting a lifestyle that goes against Islam, Vanity Fair reported.

“Ms. Kim Kardashian is a popular fashion model so Instagram’s CEO tells her, ‘Make this native,’” spokesperson Mostafa Alizadeh said on an Iranian news program. He added that there were confident that financial support was involved, and they “are taking this very seriously”, according to a new report from Iranwire.

The group regulates domestic culture and restricts the influence of other nations in Iran. So far, it has warned as many as 170 individuals, of whom 29 are being targeted for prosecution. These actions are part of its “Operation Spider 2”, which involves efforts to crack down on what they consider illicit use of social media platforms Instagram and Facebook. The Organized Cyberspace Crimes Unit said it has arrested people behind some 350 Facebook pages, accusing them of “promoting a culture of promiscuity”, among other things, according to the Iranwire report.
