Sushil Kumar says meeting with Wrestling Federation of India officials was positive
The wrestler has been banned from attending the national camp for the Summer Games until the next High Court hearing on May 27.
The Wrestling Federation of India has taken a decision on whether Sushil Kumar or Narsingh Yadav will represent the country in the 74 kg Greco-Roman category at the Rio Olympics, reported CNN News18. However, WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh did not reveal any further details and said the federation will submit its reply to the Delhi High Court. The WFI has also banned Kumar from attending the national camp until the next court hearing on May 27.
Kumar, who met Singh and other WFI officials for around 90 minutes on Wednesday, said that it was a positive meeting. The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the WFI to consider Olympic medallist Kumar's plea to hold a trial between him and Yadav to decide India's representative. The federation was asked to file an affidavit making its stand clear.
Yadav had secured a quota for India in the 74 kg category during the Wrestling World Championships in Las Vegas last year and was thought to be the Indian representative for the Olympics. However, Kumar challenged that assumption and has called for a bout between him and Yadav to decide who takes the berth. The WFI has been non-committal on the matter and the Sports Ministry also decided not to intervene, saying it was a decision that the federation would have to take.
