At least 72 killed in a series of bombings in Syrian regime bastions
Government strongholds in Tartus and Jableh were targeted with at least seven attacks, which were claimed by the Islamic State.
At least 72 people were killed and 120 wounded after a series of bombs struck two Syrian government bastions, Tartus and Jableh, on Monday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. While at least 31 died in three explosions in the Tartus stronghold, around 15 were confirmed killed in four blasts in Jableh, AFP reported. The toll remains uncertain, with other reports claiming more than 100 were killed in the explosions.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the deadly blasts that were launched in Latakia province, western Syria. Two of the attacks were in the coastal city of Tartus and three in Jableh were suicide bombings, the monitoring group said.
