The Chairman of Bihar School Examination Board, Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, resigned on Wednesday after a controversy surrounding the state’s Board examination toppers, PTI reported. The Nitish Kumar-led government had ordered an investigation after toppers were found to be clueless about their subjects. FIRs were filed against Singh, three toppers and exam centre employees. The education board had also cancelled the results of toppers Saurav Srestha and Rahul Raj.

The state had sought Singh’s resignation on Tuesday, after which a show cause notice was issued against him, India Today reported. Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna Manu Maharaaj, told PTI that four people were detained after a case was filed by the education department against seven people on Monday night.

The 14 toppers of the Bihar Class 12 board exams had been asked to appear for a retest and an interview with a panel of subject experts on June 3.
