Boxing: Mary Kom will not participate in Rio Olympics
The International Olympic Committee has decided not to give her a wildcard entry into the Games.
Five-time world champion Mary Kom will not participate in the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro after the International Olympic Committee decided on Wednesday that she would not get wildcard entry. Kom had missed out on qualifying directly for the event earlier and the All India Boxing Association's ad-hoc committee was trying to get a wildcard entry for her.
"It is the decision made by the International Olympic Committee that nations that have not had more than eight boxers in the last two games will be granted the card. India had eight boxers in London itself with seven men and Mary Kom among the pugilists qualifying," said Kishen Narsi, chairman of the AIBA committee.
Wildcards were made available to all the National Olympic Committees participating in the Olympics, but with the IOC's decision, Mary Kom's chances of participating in the Olympic are over now.
