France President Francois Hollande has urged United Kingdom not to waste time and start the process of leaving the European Union as early as possible. He said the implementation of the so-called Brexit “cannot be cancelled or delayed.”

Not only Hollande, leaders of Germany and Italy also want Britain to make a swift start to the leaving proceedings. The political and economic scenario of Europe has been in doldrums ever since Britain voted to leave the EU on June 24.

Britain, on the other hand, has been taking its own time. Leader of the Conservative party have made it clear that they would first like to have extensive talks on the terms of exit and only then will they proceed to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, reported The Independent.

“There should be no decision to invoke Article 50 before the British negotiating strategy is agreed and clear,” said Theresa May. Michael Gove, who is also in the fray to be the next Prime Minister, holds similar views.

Article 50 describes how a country can choose to leave the Union. It states that a leaver will have to first notify the Union, strike a deal on its withdrawal terms and establish legal grounds for a future relationship with the EU.
