Navjot Kaur on Tuesday said her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation from the Rajya Sabha also meant that he has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party, reported The Indian Express. A member of the ruling party herself, Kaur said the Aam Aadmi Party remains the only option for the cricketer-turned politician who, according to her, took the step to serve Punjab.

However, she has retained her post as the chief parliamentary secretary of the saffron party in the state. “I think he [Sidhu] has very clearly suggested what he is going to do and in the coming days let him come out with this [his future plans]. He has said that he wants to serve Punjab and there is no choice except serving from Aam Aadmi Party,” said the legislator from Amritsar-East constituency.

After Singh resigned from the House on Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal "saluted" him for his "courage". Earlier, the AAP had said that Singh would be welcomed into his party should he choose to join, the Economic Times reported. Punjab Assembly elections are scheduled for next year.

Singh was a three-time Lok Sabha legislator from Amritsar, but his seat was given to senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley in the 2014 election. Jaitley lost the seat to the Congress’ Amarinder Singh.
