Dating app Tinder is set to add a new feature that will match groups to friends, instead of individuals, for social get-togethers, reported BBC. The location-based app's chief executive Sean Rad said the Tinder Social is the first step that the company is taking in its attempt to make the app a little broader and more social.

Some experts argued that Tinder, which is generally viewed as a hook-up site, should be careful in its expansion so that it doesn't offset its majority users. However, Rad said the decision to diversify was not about targeting its "niche" activity. "It definitely allows you to make connections beyond just romantic ones," he said.

According to him, Tinder is not just a dating app, it aims to capture one's entire social life, which has many different aspects to it. "The beauty of putting this in the same app is that we have scale. So, overnight you can get the power of Tinder and connect with others going out tonight in a way that was never possible," Rad explained. Tinder Social will be free to use for the time being. However, the company may add premium features, which users can use only if they have a Tinder Plus account.
