Those who are weak and powerless have no choice in Narendra Modi's Gujarat, says Rahul Gandhi
The Congress vice president met family members of the Dalit men who were assaulted near Una, and announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for them.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday met the family members of the Dalit men who were assaulted by local rau rakshak committee members near Gujarat's Una Town for skinning a dead cow on July 11, reported PTI. Gandhi assured justice to the victims and announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for them, reported The Hindu. The attack sparked widespread protests all over the state, with several members of the Dalit community attempting suicide.
After meeting the victims, Gandhi said, "Modiji talks about Gujarat model, but whoever opposes this model is attacked. Those who are weak and powerless have no voice in Modiji's Gujarat. Anyone who demands education and fights against big corporates is suppressed here. Those who raise their voice against corporates are crushed." He added that it's a fight between two ideologies, that of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel against that of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, MS Golwalkar and Narendra Modi.
One of the victims' cousin said. "We narrated to him [Rahul] what happened with my cousins and uncle. He listened to us patiently and assured us all help so that we can get justice." Gandhi purportedly said he was ashamed that such incidents are still happening in the country. The Congress leader was accompanied by party leaders Kumari Selja and Gurudas Kamat.
