Twenty-eight year old Indian athlete Inderjeet Singh, who was going to represent the country in the shot put event at the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, failed a dope test on Tuesday, according to PTI.

Singh's A sample returned a positive result for a test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency on June 22. He has the option to test his B sample in the next seven days. If the B sample also tests positive, Singh faces the prospect of missing the Rio Olympics, which starts on August 5, and also faces a larger ban.

Singh won bronze at the 2014 Asian Games and gold at the Asian Championships and the Asian Grand Prix in 2015. He is the third Indian athlete and the second Indian Olympian to test positive for doping recently after wrestler Narsingh Pancham Yadav and his room-mate Sandeep Tulsi Yadav.
