Heavy rainfall hit Mumbai on Friday resulting in water logging in parts of the city. The Thane and Navi Mumbai municipal corporations have sent out heavy rain alerts in the area for the next 48 hours, reported The Times of India. The Indian Meteorological Department has also said that the city is expected to receive heavy showers.

City residents took to Twitter and reported water-logging in several localities including Sandhurst Road, Byculla, Worli, Parel, Sion, Khar and Juhu, among others. Local trains are delayed on the Harbour and the Central line, while traffic pile-ups have been reported from various parts of the city. High tide is expected to hit around 4 pm, which might make the situation worse. Mumbai-bound flights were also delayed because of the heavy rains, and one flight was diverted.

According to the Mumbai police, water-logging up to one to 1.5 feet was reported from Abdul Durrani Chowk, Shanti Nagar CST Road, LBS Road, Gafoor Khan Estate and Thakur Dham junction.

The Thane tehsildar's office has approached the local administration for rescue teams in low lying areas around Parsik and Belapur hills. Thane Mayor Sanjay More and Civic Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal held a meeting with officials to work out a plan to handle flooding in the city.

On Tuesday, a bridge collapsed in Mahad, and several vehicles got washed away by the strong currents of the Savitri river. Around 42 people are feared dead in the incident. So far, search and rescue teams found 14 bodies on Thursday.
