Indian tennis player Sania Mirza and her partner Prarthana Thombare crashed out in the first round of the women’s doubles event at the Olympics on Saturday. The duo went down 6-7 (6) 7-5 5-7 to the Chinese pair of Shuai Zhang and Shuai Peng.
The first set went to the tie-breaker, but Mirza and Thombare were unable to hold on. They came back in the second set, taking a 3-1 lead and managed to win the set. A tight third set saw the score tied at 5-5, before the Chinese duo zoomed ahead to win.
India's only hopes in tennis lie in the mixed doubles competition where Sania Mirza will be partnering Rohan Bopanna.
