In Vijay Rupani's new Gujarat Cabinet, deputy CM Nitin Patel gets Narmada, Kalpsar and finance jobs
The chief minister will take charge of the home and industry departments, while Chiman Shaparia will hold the energy portfolio.
Newly sworn-in Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday handed out new portfolios in his Cabinet, keeping home and industry for himself. However, key departments including Narmada and Kalpsar, which previous Gujarat chief ministers Anandiben Patel and Narendra Modi handled, were given to Rupani’s deputy Nitin Patel. Nitin Patel was also given charge of the finance department.
Chiman Shaparia will now head the energy department, which used to be with Saurabh Patel, who was dropped from the Cabinet despite also holding the finance and industry portfolios. Pradipsinh Jadeja will be the new minister of state for home, and Bhupendrasinh Chudasama will head the revenue, education and legislative and parliamentary affairs departments.
Among other appointments, Shankar Chaudhary was given sole charge of the environment department, Dilipsinh Thakor the labour and employment portfolio and Atmaram Parmar was given social justice and empowerment, as well as women and child development.
