Ed Sheeran copied Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On, the family of the song's co-writer tells court
The British singer-composer has not yet issued a statement regarding the dispute involving his 2014 hit 'Thinking Out Loud'.
British singer-composer Ed Sheeran may soon face a law suit for allegedly copying his 2014 song Thinking Out Loud from Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On, reported BBC. The family of the co-writer of the 1973 classic has moved court seeking direction whether to initiate legal proceedings in the case.
In the complaint filed in federal court in the Southern District of New York, Ed Townsend's family said, "The defendants copied the heart of Let's and repeated it continuously throughout Thinking. The melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions of Thinking are substantially and/or strikingly similar to the drum composition of Let's."
Sheeran has yet to issue a statement regarding the dispute, according to The Independent. Thinking Out Loud won Song of the Year at the 2016 Grammy Awards in February 2016. The singer also won the Best Pop Solo Performance award for the same song.
Two American musicians sued Sheeran for $20 million in June for the similarity between one of their songs and his single Photograph.
