Delhi Police arrest tempo delivery van driver in hit-and-run case
The accused was held on the basis of CCTV camera footage that also showed indifferent passers by, including a man who even stole the victim's phone.
The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested the driver of a tempo delivery van that ran over a 35-year-old man and left him to bleed to death on the road, reported PTI. A senior police officer said, "Based on the CCTV footage from the accident site, the accused identified as the driver of the tempo delivery van, Rajesh, has been nabbed."
The accident took place at Mahavir Nagar in Uttam Nagar area of the Capital on Wednesday. A CCTV camera recorded the entire incident, including shocking footage of passers by who did not stop to help the fatally injured man. A rickshaw puller was also caught on camera stealing the dying man's phone, which was lying next to him on the road.
The deceased, Matibul, was a security guard from West Bengal. The father of four was hit by the tempo when he was walking towards his home in Tihar village after work.
