A Central Reserve Police Force officer and two militants were killed, and nine others were injured during an attack on a camp in Srinagar on Monday. However, the bodies of the militants are yet to be recovered, reported Hindustan Times.

The camp, located in Nowhatta area, was close to where Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti attended Independence Day celebrations. The attack came despite heightened security across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day.

Many parts of the city continue to be under curfew-like restrictions, and security was increased over the weekend because of a march carried out by separatist leaders. Reports also said two terrorists were killed in a separate incident, when militants tried to infiltrate the border in Uri, around 70 km from Srinagar.

The state has seen violent protests and has been under curfew since security forces killed Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8. The situation in the state has been criticised by Pakistan as well, leading to an ongoing war of words between the two countries. President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday noted that the increasing terror attacks across India and the world “pose a danger to entire comity of nations”. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said terrorism had affected normal life in Kashmir, and re-affirmed that PoK was a part of India.
