People filing complaint or appeal under the Right to Information Act will now get real-time updates through SMSs and emails regarding their applications, reported Economic Times. The Central Information Commission's latest step towards digitalisation will be implemented from next week.

The commission will start using a news software from next week which will make the process more convenient and faster. With the new system in place, applicants will be given a registration number at the time of filing an appeal or complaint. The case will then be transferred to the concerned information commissioner electronically within hours instead of days that it take currently.

The applicants will be informed about the date of hearing of their case through SMSs and emails that will also contain a list of the documents submitted by him to the commission. The newspaper quoted a senior CIC official who said, "At present, the appellant and the ministry sometimes appear in the case without knowing what the submissions are. So this would help both sides in preparing for the case."

The new system will not only help applicants but also information commissioners who will have the background of a case and details about the applicant at disposal.
