Gujarat: Doctor, ward boy of Gandhinagar Apollo Hospital arrested for raping dengue patient
The 21-year-old complainant said she was raped twice, and the police said medical tests confirmed the sexual assault.
A doctor and a ward boy of Apollo Hospital (pictured above) were arrested in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar on Friday for allegedly raping a 21-year-old dengue patient, ANI reported. The police said the complainant was drugged, and medical tests confirmed rape. The patient narrated her ordeal to her uncle in a letter on Thursday, according to NDTV.
Inspector KK Pandya said the complainant alleged that Dr Ramesh Chauhan and ward boy Chandrakant raped her twice – the first time on Sunday when Chauhan was on a night shift. “She is still in the hospital, and her allegation is being probed,” he added. The complainant was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Apollo Hospital on Saturday.
Hospital authorities told The Times of India that they are cooperating with the police. Medical Superintendent Piyasa Nath said they had provided CCTV footage to the police, as well.
