Delhi-Gurgaon traffic: Expressway will be remodelled in half the proposed time, says Nitin Gadkari
The Union minister for road transport also said a new highway between the Capital and Jaipur is being planned to cut travel time from six to two hours.
The remodelling of the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway will be completed in 15 months instead of 30 months, Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said on Sunday. The Rs 1,005-crore project includes three underpasses that will help rid Gurgaon of the major traffic jams it grapples with every day.
Gadkari also said an "intelligent transport system", featuring CCTV cameras to catch erring motorists, would soon be started on NH8, The Hindu reported. "Everyone will have to follow traffic rules and violators will be made to cough up penalty," Gadkari said.
A new access-controlled highway is also being planned between Delhi and Jaipur, which is expected to cut down the travel time from six hours to two hours, Gadkari added. He said the route will be functional in a year. The minister has asked Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to promote development around the highway so that the cost of the project can be met. He said the land acquisition for the project alone will cost Rs 16,000 crore.
