David Cameron resigns from British parliament
The former prime minister had been an MP from Whitney, Oxfordshire, since 2001, and the constituency will now hold a by-election.
Former British prime minister David Cameron on Monday announced his resignation from the British parliament "with immediate effect", reported BBC. This necessitates a by-election in his constituency of Whitney in Oxfordshire.
Cameron, who had been the Conservative Party's MP from Whitney since 2001, told ITV News, “With modern politics, with the circumstances of my resignation, it isn’t really possible to be a proper backbench MP as a former prime minister.”
The news comes nearly three months after he resigned as the prime minister after the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in a national referendum. He was replaced as prime minister by Theresay May.
