LinkedIn Lite mobile website launched in India for users with poor internet connectivity
The company has come up with two other new services – LinkedIn Placements and LinkedIn Starter Pack – to tap into the domestic market.
LinkedIn Corp on Monday announced the launch of a ‘Lite’ version of its mobile website for Indian users to browse on their phones, reported Reuters. The company has also come up with two other new services for the Indian market – LinkedIn Placements and LinkedIn Starter Pack.
Akshay Kothari, the company's manager and head of product for India, said LinkedIn Lite will be available in a couple of weeks’ time. According to company officials, LinkedIn Lite loads four times faster and provides a better experience to users in urban and rural areas with slow or poor internet connectivity.
LinkedIn Placements is aimed at helping students looking for jobs. It will host a common online assessment test for jobs in 35 domestic and international companies, reported International Business Times. The LinkedIn Starter Pack, on the other hand, will connect startups as well as small and medium businesses with job seekers, in addition to giving small businesses the chance to create posts about vacancies in their firms, according to Business Standard. The pack will be priced at Rs 99,000 a year, a 60% discount from what LinkedIn usually charges.
Facebook and Twitter had both launched a lighter version of the app earlier. “These new initiatives help us keep pace with the rising demand for knowledge and access to opportunity,” Kothari said. LinkedIn currently has more than 37 million users in India. The company, which was acquired by Microsoft for $26 billion in June, recently opened its largest office in Asia in Bengaluru.
