Four people died of chikungunya in Delhi in the past 24 hours
There has been a 90% rise in the number of cases reported in the Capital within a week.
Three people died of chikungunya on Tuesday at Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram hospital, the same facility that reported the first death from the disease on Monday. All the patients died of multi-organ failure within 24 hours of being admitted to hospital, reported Hindustan Times. There has been a 90% rise in chikungunya cases in Delhi over a week.
According to municipal reports, hospitals across the city have recorded 1,057 such cases till September 10, PTI reported. On Monday, another suspected chikungunya death was also reported from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. However, hospital authorities have not confirmed this yet.
The opposing Bharatiya Janata Party attacked the Aam Aadmi Party government for rise in the number of cases. The BJP said the government is busy in other states, when it should be taking steps to contain the disease, referring to AAP's current Punjab polls campaign. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the same day announced test kits worth Rs 1,500 would be distributed as part of its initiative to control the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
