Football: Bengaluru FC beat Tampines Rovers 1-0 in first leg of AFC Cup quarter-final
CK Vineeth scored the only goal in a match that was played behind closed doors.
The Bengaluru Football Club defeated Singapore's Tampines Rovers 1-0 in the first leg of the Asian Football Confederation Cup quarter-final at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The match was played behind closed doors because of security concerns related to the violence sparked by the Cauvery dispute in the city.
CK Vineeth scored the lone goal in the seventh minute in a game where Bengaluru controlled possession and had plenty of chances to double or even triple their lead. Tampines Rovers' best chance of the match came through a powerfully struck left-foot shot from Muhammad Yasir, which narrowly missed goalkeeper Amrinder Singh's dive. The second leg of the match will be in Singapore on September 21.
