Palestinian gunman kills two, wounds six in Jerusalem before being shot dead by Israeli Police
The incident began after the assailant opened fire from a car near the police headquarters, after which he drove away from the scene and was chased down.
A Palestinian man shot two people dead and wounded six others in Jerusalem before being gunned down by Israeli Police on Sunday, Al Jazeera reported. The assailant – identified as 39-year-old Musbah Abu Sbeih – opened fire from inside a car near the police headquarters in the city's Sheikh Jarra sector and then drove away from the scene. He was chased down by motorcycle police, a spokesperson said.
"When the terrorist spotted the police, he fired at them, and they managed to shoot and kill him," the spokesperson said, according to Reuters. The shooter carried out the attack half an hour before he was reportedly supposed to hand himself over to the Israeli Police.
The incident took place amid increasing security across the city in preparation for the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which begins on October 11. The assailant was the 232nd Palestinian to have been killed by Israeli security personnel since October 2015. Attackers have so far killed at least 33 Israelis and two American citizens during the same period.
