Apple claims 90% of iPhone chargers sold on Amazon are counterfeit
A lawsuit has been filed against e-commerce Mobile Star LLC for trademark infringement.
A lawsuit filed by Apple Inc has alleged that 90% of the iPhone chargers being sold on Amazon are counterfeit, The Verge reported on Thursday. The lawsuit has been filed against Mobile Star LLC for trademark infringement.
The lawsuit, shared by PatentlyApple, says, "Apple brings this action to protect its customers from dangerous counterfeit power products such as power adapters and charging cables that Amazon.com sourced from defendant Mobile Star LLC and sold through its internet-based e-commerce platform."
Apple officials said the fake chargers were potentially dangerous as they were "poorly constructed, with inferior or missing components, flawed design, and inadequate electrical insulation." The iPhone maker said it bought more than 100 "iPhone devices, Apple power products, and lightning cables sold as genuine" on the e-commerce platform, but discovered that a majority of the products were fake.
