10 killed, 50 injured after explosions at shipbreaking yard in Pakistan's Balochistan province
The fate of 30 workers at the site remains unknown.
At least 10 people were killed and 50 others injured after a series of explosions took place at the Gadani shipbreaking yard in the Balochistan province of Pakistan on Tuesday, PTI reported. The blast took place at an oil tanker, which was being dismantled by workers at the yard. More than 100 people were reportedly working at the site when the explosion took place, according to officials.
The fate of 30 workers at the site remains unknown, according to the officials. Rescue workers have been unable to put out the fire that erupted after the explosions. About eight explosions reportedly took place at the tanker, and only one fire truck was sent to the site. The explosions are believed to have place because of gas welding work at the site. Officials said some of the workers also threw themselves into the sea to escape the fire.
Rescue work was also being hampered by the flames. Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed grief and directed authorities to provide medical attention to the injured. He also directed a probe into the incident.
