Two Kannada actors feared dead after jumping into reservoir for stunt sequence
Artist Duniya Vijay, who had also performed the action scene in a water body on the outskirts of Bengaluru, managed to swim to shore.
Two Kannada actors are feared to have drowned in a reservoir on the outskirts of Bengaluru while they were performing a stunt sequence for a film, The Hindu reported. Uday and Anil reportedly drowned after jumping into Thippagondahalli reservoir from a helicopter while shooting the movie's climax. A third actor, Duniya Vijay, had also made the jump, but he managed to swim to shore.
Rescue workers and police were called to the location after the two actors did not emerge from the water after the stipulated time. Fire crews were also sent to the spot, according to The Times of India, which further reported that the two actors were not provided with the safety vest that Vijay was. The boat meant to pick them up from the site where they hit the water had not reached them in time either, according to the report.
While the film's crew had acquired permission to shoot at the reservoir, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board said the production unit had violated the approval by going into the water. A BWSSB official said the unit had claimed to have completed shooting and had then "illegally performed the stunt" after the officials overseeing the filming had left the site.
A police officer later told reporters that a criminal case will be registered against the crew of the film, The News Minute reported.
