Thousands of Americans took to the streets across the United States on Wednesday after billionaire Donald Trump was declared the winner of the presidential election. In New York, scores of protestors walked from Union Square to Trump Tower shouting slogans – “Fuck your tower! Fuck your wall”. Trump won more than 270 votes of the 538-strong electoral college on Wednesday.

An incident of shooting was reported near a scene of protest in Seattle. The local police said the incident was not related to the demonstration. They said the shooting took place after an argument. The Seattle Fire Department said five victims were being treated for gunshot wounds. They said that at least two of them were in serious condition.

Security in the downtown Manhattan area was beefed up by the New York Police Department. Nine, one of the protestors, told The Guardian, “ I am distraught at the decision. The protest felt less like a call-to-arms than a vigil for the promise of America.” Calling Trump a hothead and a megalomaniac, she said he did not have best wishes of the people of America. “I never thought it was possible; it truly didn’t seem possible. I’m embarrassed for America,” the New York resident said.

In Chicago, more than 1,800 people gathered outside the Trump International Hotel and Tower, shouting slogans such as “No Trump! No KKK! No racist USA”. Chicago citizen Adriana Rizzo said, “I’m just really terrified about what is happening in this country. Enjoy your rights while you can.” People held demonstrations in Philadelphia, Boston, Portland and Austin as well.

Similar protests have been planned in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Oakland. A group of Latino students walked out of their classes on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles, and held protest rallies. They chanted “The people united will never be defeated”, ”Not Supporting Racism, Not My President” and “Immigrants Make America Great”.
