England bowled India out for 488 and stretched their lead to 163 at the end of the end of Day 4 of the first Test in Rajkot. Openers Alastair Cook and Haseeb Hameed built a solid platform, finishing at 114/0.

India started the day at 319/4, but Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were dismissed in the first session. Kohli was declared out after clipping the stumps, becoming the first Indian batsman to be dismissed hit-wicket in 14 years. Zafar Ansari bowled Ajinkya Rahane out.

India’s lower order frustrated the English bowlers, with Ravichandran Ashwin (70) leading the way. However, the spin bowlers impressed for the visitors, picking up eight wickets between them. In reply, Cook and Haseeb survived survived some nervy moments against Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin but gradually grew in confidence at the crease. The 19-year-old England opener, Haseeb, brought up his maiden half-century in the final hour of the day’s play.
