Women's cricket: India beat West Indies by 15 runs in 3rd ODI to complete 3-0 whitewash
Veda Krishnamurthy starred with the bat while Rajeshwari Gayakwad's 4/34 bundled the visitors out cheaply.
The Indian women’s team fought back admirably in the final overs of the third One-Day International against West Indies in Vijayawada on Wednesday to complete a 3-0 whitewash of the series. India scored 199/6 after being put in to bat first with in-form Veda Krishnamurthy scoring a fluent 71 off 79 balls. In response, West Indies were coasting to victory thanks to Kycia Knight (55) and opener Hayley Matthews (44), but a sudden collapse, triggered by Rajeshwari Gayakwad (4/34) handed India a 15-run win.
The Indians were struggling at 52/3 before Krishnamurthy bailed her side out of trouble once again. Her 51-run partnership with Harmanpreet Kaur and 57-run stand with Devika Vaidya took India to fighting total.
Matthews was in control of the Indian bowlers and Knight’s half-century took the visitors close to the Indian total. Then, West Indies appeared to panic, and there were as many as three run-outs with overs running out. Gayakwad’s spin proved to be a menace with the Windies losing their last six wickets for just 18 runs in the span of 27 deliveries.
