Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said cleaning the country’s system of black money and corruption was high on his agenda, in reference to his recent move to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. He was addressing the Economic Times Asian Business Leaders Conclave 2016 in Kuala Lumpur via video conference. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak also was present at the Conclave, reported PTI.

“India is currently witnessing an economic transformation… We are now moving towards a digital and cashless economy,” Modi said. He also said a number of steps have been taken to attract greater FDI in the country.

Modi said the total FDI inflows in the past two and a half years have touched $130 billion (more than Rs 8 lakh crore). “The positive change in policy, regulatory and investment environment in India is recognised by both domestic and foreign investors,” he said. He also said the Goods and Services Tax be implemented in 2017.

During a brief exchange between the two leaders at the Conclave, the Malaysian Premier praised Modi for the demonetisation move. “I must congratulate you for being a good reformist. You have done what lesser mortals would not have attempted,” Razak said.
