Cricket: India reach 60/0 in reply to England's 477 at the end of Day 2 of fifth Test
Openers KL Rahul and Parthiv Patel were going steady after the host was on the field for 157.2 overs.
England were in an advantage position at the end of the second day’s play of the fifth Test in Chennai after they posted a commanding first innings score of 477. India started off steadily, reaching 60/0 as openers KL Rahul (30 not out) and Parthiv Patel (28 not out) batted with caution against the England bowlers in the final session.
India were on top in the first session after dismissing centurion Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, and Jos Buttler in quick succession. From 321/7, Adil Rashid (60) and debutant Liam Dawson (66 not out) took the attack to the hosts, building a vital 108-run stand for the eighth wicket.
To compound India’s misery, Murali Vijay walked off the field after suffering a shoulder injury. As a result, Patel was promoted to open alongside Rahul. At the end of the day’s play, England have a massive 417-run lead.
