13 killed in Indonesian military plane crash
The incident took place minutes before the Hercules C-130 aircraft was scheduled to land.
All 13 people on board an Indonesian Air Force aircraft died on Sunday after the Hercules C-130 crashed in the country’s Papua province. The plane, which was carrying food supplies and cement, crashed minutes before its scheduled landing, reported AP. Investigators said bad weather could have caused the mishap.
The flight took off from Timika at 5.35 am and crashed at Wamena around 6.15 am, Reuters reported. Three pilots and 10 military personnel were aboard, according to BBC.
“The plane was heavily damaged and seemed to have been razed by fire. All 13 people inside the plane died,” Rasbuhani Umar, chief of the Wamena Airport, told The Jakarta Post.
In June 2015, more than 120 people were killed after a C-130 military transport plane had crashed near Medan, Sumatra Island.
