UP polls: BJP wants female security personnel at ‘sensitive’ booths to check IDs of burqa-clad women
The step will minimise incidents of bogus voting, the party said in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday asked the Election Commission to deploy women police and paramilitary personnel for the last two phases of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party demanded that female officers be present at “sensitive” and “hyper-sensitive” polling booths to check the voter ID cards of burqa-clad women, reported PTI.
“Adequate deployment of female police would ensure proper checking of women voters, and at the same time, minimise incidents of bogus voting,” the party said in a representation to the Chief Election Commissioner.
The sixth phase of the state polls will be held on March 4 and the last phase on March 8. While Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Azamgarh, Mau and Ballia will go to polls on March 4, Ghazipur, Varanasi, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Sonbhadra and Jaunpur will vote on March 8.
