Cricket: Windfall for Team India as BCCI doubles players’ salaries
Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are among seven players who will receive Rs 2 crore per annum.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday hiked the retainers and match fee payments in the annual contracts of the senior men’s national team players, following a meeting of its Committee of Administrators.
Grade A players will now be paid Rs 2 crore per annum, Grade B players will get Rs 1 crore per annum, while Grade C players will be paid Rs 50 lakh per annum – all double the amounts they were paid earlier.
Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja and Murali Vijay were promoted to Grade A in their annual contracts. They join Indian skipper Virat Kohli, former captain MS Dhoni, vice captain Ajinkya Rahane and ace spinner R Ashwin in the elite group.
The match fee enhancement for the men will be effective from October 1, 2016, onwards. Players will also receive Rs 15 lakh per Test, Rs 6 lakh per One-Day International and Rs 3 lakh for a Twenty20 International.
