Centre claims infiltrations from Pakistan along the LoC have decreased since ‘surgical strikes’
There were 110 incidents in the three months before the Army's operation, but only 89 in the same period after, minister Hansraj Ahir said in Parliament.
The Centre on Wednesday claimed that the number of cross-border incidents initiated by Pakistan along the Line of Control had decreased since the Indian Army conducted “surgical strikes” against “terror launchpads” in 2016. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government added that there have also been fewer casualties in the three months after the strikes compared with the three months before it.
Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, said there were 110 attacks by militants in Jammu and Kashmir before the September 29 Army operations, but only 89 in the months after it. Similarly, 34 security personnel and seven civilians were killed in incidents before the strikes, will 19 personnel and six civilians died in incursions after.
On September 29, the Army had said it had received information about infiltrators planning to cross the LoC and decided to take action. The Army’s move came after the attacks on its camp in Uri, where militants believed to be from Pakistan left 19 soldiers dead.
